So, I won’t lie we are BUSY down here on all things Doritos #Boldstage, I spent most of the first day of music talking people into leaping off a platform for Lady Gaga’s #Boldstage show on Thursday.

So not a ton of music was seen, but I did manage to catch Chromeo playing  Dell party at Fader Fort and then we all got to se the Def Jam reunion show at Stubbs later in the night.. a good start, but today should be a bit better, we have an 11AM meeting with a women’s roller derby team, fun times.

Now the IMPORTANT STUFF! The first entry of trending band names at SXSW!!! Keyword BLACK! All the names below are real, I’m not making this shit up…

Black Lips, Black Dave, The Black Cadillacs, The Black Watch, The Black Angels, The Black LIllies, Black Pistol Fire, Blue Sky Black Death, The Black and White Years, Blue Eyed Blacks, Jeff Black, Black Atlass, Black Taxi, Black Milk, Black Cobain, Moodie Black, Black Violin, Black Tusk, Small Black

Stay #Bold,

Jamestown Revival plays GSP 3/3 1PM 3rd floor hangout!

Awesome and much buzz surrounds this Folk Pop band as they head down to SXSW, they played Conan in January, and it was a really

I predict they will be the breakout band of the festival, and I hope you get a chance to see them here before they’re headlining the Fillmore come Summer.

Many huge thanks to INGrooves for putting the showcase together, they are BUYING US LUNCH!

My first report from the front lines of SXSW.

Well, I’ll keep this short bc there’s not a lot of time to talk, blog, (eat, sleep etc.)

Started strong with interactive, great panels, great parties, a LOT of bands made the trip down here just to play that part of SXSW. When big tech is paying, a lot of people are playing.

Here’s a list of the bands I’ve seen so far, and also a few (really bad) photos from some of those shows.

Blackbird Blackbird @ Mohawk patio
Starf@cker @ Mohawk Patio
Passion Pit @ Hype Hotel
Wild Cat! Wild Cat! @Hype Hotel
Moon Hooch (incredible crazy band video to come!) @ the corner of 6th and San Jacinto
Lord Huron @ Speakeasy
The Joy Formidable @ Speakeasy
Japandroids @ Viceland
Matthew Dear @ ND
Nicolas Jaar @ ND

I’ve also hit a few great panels, Randall Poster was here yesterday he gave a great talk, he’s the gold standard of music supes, and it was a proud moment when Paymon and I were able to take Randall and Laura Webb (music supervisor on many MTV properties) on a guided tour of the Doritos #BOLDSTAGE. #AWESOME

Michael Fitzpatrick, from Fitz and the Tantrums, Gabe McDonough from Leo Burnett, Michael Frick from Mophonics and Amos Newman from WME hosted a really informative panel about artists who choose to pursue making music for ads in addition to their normal careers as a musician.

Best quote of the panel was from Fitz, “Writing for advertising is the best gig in town for an artist, by far.”
